What is ECAP?

ECAP is a professional organization for Industrial-Organizational (I-O) psychologists, as well as others who focus on applying psychological principles to work behavior, from the Upstate New York area. Our membership consists of practitioners and academics who share a common interest in I-O psychology principles. Meetings typically take place on a quarterly basis.

Why Join ECAP?

The benefits of membership in ECAP include networking, discussing, and exchanging information of mutual interest. Members will also receive ECAP’s membership directory.

Mission Statement

The mission of ECAP is to develop a network of I-O psychologists and others who focus on applying psychological principles to work behavior in the greater Upstate New York region that provides a forum for local academics and practitioners to share and exchange research and practices, form collaborative relationships, and systematically disseminate information of interest.

Membership

ECAP has two classes of membership:
1.      Professional membership is open to all professionals of the I-O psychology community in the greater Upstate New York area who are participating in the research and/or application of I-O principles in business, government, academia, or consulting. The dues for student members shall be no more than one-half of the dues for professional members. All membership dues shall be paid to the Treasurer.

The Executive Committee shall consist of the currently serving elected officers of ECAP, each of whom shall have equal voting status. The elected officers of ECAP shall be President, Secretary, Treasurer, Program Chair and Webmaster. Elected officers shall be dues paid members of ECAP. The term for all elected officers of ECAP shall be two years. Elections for ECAP officers shall be held in fall meetings, and appointments shall be staggered for the sake of continuity. The Executive Committee shall be responsible for the day-to-day operations of the organization including: the collection and accounting of dues, payment of expenses, organization of meetings, preparation of appropriate programs and discussions for regularly scheduled meetings, establishment and maintenance of the ECAP web site, and preparation and dissemination of a membership directory. A quorum of the Executive Committee shall consist of 60 percent of the Executive Committee members.

Executive Committee members who fail to meet their commitments and obligations (including, but not limited to meeting participation and fulfillment of their functional responsibilities) shall forfeit their positions. After reasonable notice, the Executive Committee may invite a new committee member on board, or, may redistribute responsibilities on the team. At the discretion of the Executive Committee, subcommittees may be formed to carry out very specific purposes in support of ECAP’s goals.

Members may be charged a reasonable cost for each meeting, and the Executive Committee may impose a surcharge to nonmembers for attendance at any ECAP meeting. The determination of a reasonable cost for each meeting will be the responsibility of the Program Chair in consultation with other members of the Executive Committee. In determining the cost of a meeting, the Program Chair will take into account the expenses associated with the meeting and the anticipated attendance. Persons who make reservations but fail to appear at a meeting shall, nevertheless, be required to pay for the meeting (if a fee was involved), unless the reservation is canceled within the prescribed time limit set by the Program Chair.
